Socialization and Mask Project The socialization and mask project was a very cool and interesting project that I would love to do again. Throughout this whole project we learned the whole meaning of socialization and the cycle of socialization in class. After we learned about all of the topics we started on a mask project where we made a mask of our face and we painted them, writing how we were socialized weather would be somebody was born in a rich family they would put dollar signs or if they were socialized as don't cry- boys don't cry it would be a tear with a red "x" on it. Then the final project was the exhibition. This was probably the coolest project that I have done in school. We got together into groups and collaborated into making a mini like museum describing the cycle. If I had to do this again to be honest I don't think I would have done anything else because we did it so well so I had a lot of fun doing this whole project and I would love to do it!! My essay Broken Ski Comp It was one day before the trip with a few of my friends Gabe, Dylan, and Jason. We were all so stoked about the trip, we had been planning the trip for weeks, and it was right around the corner. The day before we set off, we all came to my friend gabe's house. We all did a check up and made sure that we had all the gear packed for the trip. “Cameras, packed” said Gabe due for the most important aspect of trips gear. We were all ready for the trip, now we just had to survive the school day so we could leave for our destination. It felt like five days for school to be out, we were so stoked. We finally had the last class and we all were in the same class. I kept saying to myself, you are going to get through this. We were not really paying attention to the clock, and it was surprising when it finally rang. Man, I can still to this day remember how wonderful it was to hear it ring. I never thought it would sound so beautiful. We ran out of the school like it was on fire to the trucks where Gabe’s dad and Dylan’s dad were waiting. Dylan and Jason went with Dylan’s dad but me and Gabe went with the cool dad. On the ride to our destination we were blasting the music like never before. It felt like when the bass hit it was like in our throats. We might as well didn't speak because there was no way we could hear each other. It was 6:30 and we have about another hour to go when we were starving like crazy so both of the cars pulled over we go to a restaurant. I have to say I was really happy that it was a mexican restaurant. When we went inside I could smell the wonderful mexican food. It felt like home… don't know why but it did. We all ordered food. We ate it. We loved it. And we felt it. It was so good that all of us at the same exact time were all wanting to go to the bathroom. We got up and we raced each other to the bathrooms but after racing each other around the place we were all like, where are the bathrooms? I asked a worker where it was but she and the others didn't know english but they were very good at sign language so she gave us directions by drawing on a napkin. By the time we got there Gabe had already beat us there. Man he came out like he just won a million dollars. We were all so disgusted in a funny way- but when it was my turn he had CLOGGED the toilet. The maintenance guy was too lazy to fix it so we had to go run out in the dark to find an open store that had a bathroom. There had to be at least 40 stores like downtown durango and they were all closed! I guess that's just their way of business. We finally found a store that was open and they let us use their toilets but after we all were finished I think they had second thoughts. We got back into the car and drove off like a bank robbery. After about another hour we finally got to our destination. We passed a billboard sign that totally welcomed us. It said “Welcome to Taos!” We all celebrated and got to our condo. It was probably 10:40 when we all got settled and we were all so tired that night. We knew that there was a ski comp for a rail jam tomorrow so we went right to bed. That night was an interesting knight. Now, Gabe is a weird sleeper. That night I will always remember. When he was asleep he got the sensation that there was a caterpillar around so he was sleep talking about a hairy caterpillar that was crawlingl up his pants. There is no way we are ever going to forget that night. We all woke up not wanting to do anything, not even going skiing. We all ate breakfast very slow. We got dressed in our gear and we headed out for the ski area where Dylan and Jason were shredding the slopes, and Gabe and I heading for the ski comp. Gabe offered to film me when I was competing. When we got up there, both groups split up. Gabe and I went to sign up then we did a few laps through the park. Now, Gabe's dad has socialized him not to just focus on terrain park skiing but to do every ski sport there is so he is not as good as I am. My parents have socialized me as to focus on terrain park and whatever I like doing and that is terrain park and powder skiing. The time has come and we are prepared. I go down to the dropping area where the other skiers are. As I sit there for about 10 minutes, I see other skiers throwing down on the rails and also crashing like never before. I think to myself I should have practice a little harder seeing other skiers throwing harder. I had the worst butterfly in the stomach feeling. It is my turn and I only have one lap so I have to make it count. I yell “dropping”. The first rail I did a switch 2 sev on, next rail I went up on it slowly and baby crushed it with a switch up two sev off. The last feature was a jump with a huge powder landing so I took advantage of it and went to throw down a misty 5 with a japanese grab but I didn't lean hard enough then clipped the landing but as I was in the air, I remember how I saw everybody was looking at me and I know that if I mess up they will know how bad or how good I am. I got up and walked it off. While I was walking it off I saw the next competitor and man I thought he had a cork 5 but sadly he over rotated and looked like he broke his arm. Apparently, I did not get first, second or third but I have been socialized that I don't need to be #1 to be proud of my work, as long as I feel proud of myself I can be proud. After that whole scene me and the other guys were trying to get Gabe to hit the easiest rail there is, so eventually he said he will do it. We told him all of the tips to not fail and break a bone. He said he felt comfortable doing it. He dropped in went up of the lip but instead of doing all of the things we told him to do, he went along and did the OPPOSITE of all of it and slipped in the rail and landed on his hand. We all thought it was his pole that hit the rail but he got up so fast and said very calmly, “Hey guys, uhh I think I broke my thumb” while his thumb was dangling. He said it went numb and can't feel it at all. We were all in shock of how calm he was. We kept skiing for the whole day and waited for the both dads. We told him the story and they both laughed. We Got back to the condo late and we put some climbing tape on his hand and we made it all better. The parents left to go to the condo feast while we had the whole place to ourselves. We had so much fun by ourselves and then we started to talk about if we should go home tomorrow. We all agreed, same with the parents and we packed up. Through this whole trip, I have learned many things in life and about how everybody is different from each other. Gabe’s family does not support park as much as my parents do, and I don't want to be too worried about how people think of me. Project Reflection
