The Hero’s Journey Colin Papenhagen 11/11/17 Humanities
Throughout this project this was a success in my opinion. I have learned the whole journey on the Hero's Journey. This project was about the stages of how the hero of his/her journey and how her/her got there, what keeps them from doing something, or how they got successful. I really enjoyed this project as being a fun, engaging, and creative project that I think most of us enjoyed. To be honest, I feel that the only part of this project was that we had to read the book Siddhartha. This book was very confusing and I could not follow how the characters went through their hero's journey compared to the Alchemist. The Alchemist was very clear and I understood where they were coming from and how they went through the book. The rest of the project was very clear. I come from a person who doesn't really like seminars but after the first one about the two books we read I got more comfortable in those seminars.
Once we first started this project I really was like, really? This seems so boring which in some parts it was but in most parts it was not so boring. After we went through a whole topic on how the hero's journey went we went ahead and started reading of an example. We read the book The Alchemist. This book was probably the best book I have read for a while. I enjoyed this book alot because I really understood this book. During the book, I was making annotations, talking about it with my friends, and making sure that I understood this book. This was very engaging and as we read this in class, we went over it in class also and we went over where the parts of the journey was. I really got the jist of what the Hero's Journey was after this book and it was an amazing book. I would definitely read it again!
The whole project was amazing in my opinion expept the part of where we were reading a book called Siddhartha. This book was suppose to have the whole Hero's Journey in it, which it did but it was very hard to follow it. As everybody mostly in the class, there were two kinds of people. One kind where we liked the book and the other was where we didn't. I was the kind where I didn't like it. When reading this book it started very confusing and I had a lack of knowing what was going on. Reading through this book, I think everyone including myself finally got ahold of what was going on. In the book it would go very deep where I would loose track of where we were and what was going on because the book would go so deep in one detail where it would make a whole different story on that. After reading through this book I have put the pieces together of what the book was talking about so when we had a sarcastic seminar, I was prepared on what was going on. I have a mostly clear vision on The Hero's Journey in the book. If I was to rate the book, I would rate it as 5-10 because it didn't really have a meaning in my opinion and it was just too off track in many places.
Throughout this project, I think I have definitely grown with speaking in front of a large crowd. I love talking infant of people but when I have to talk about something that could be possibly be graded or has to be spot on topic I feel that I was a person who wasn't that really great of that. In this project we had two sarcastic seminars and then the last part was to tell a story infant of people. The first seminar was very exiting but not in the best way. It was a very great learning experience in a way because I was kinda not telling what I thought and when I would, I would not have any evidence to back up what I think is what and not what. That's a wake up call of what I should expect. The next seminar came up with Siddhartha and I felt that how confusing that book was I paid more attention that often so during that seminar I think I did great because I was speaking up a lot and stating my evidence. I was getting into a lot of arguments which I think is great in a seminar because it shows how engaging I am. Then came up the recent part and that was that we had to make a story that happened in our life that we would never forget and that was my first flight lesson. This was very disappointing to me because after that I have now have confidence in speaking I was looking forward to speak infant of people but I didn't get to. I was very prepared and was exited but it didn't happen but now that I have develodoed better speaking skills I can now take them into more of the real world and use them. I think this would be a great project to continue for the next grade to come and I would rate this project a 10-10 with a fantastic teacher!
